NNMT adds a methyl group to nicotinamide, and in doing so it affects the cell’s pool of NAD+ precursors. 5-Amino-1MQ is a methylquinolinium compound that blocks this enzyme. It was described by researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch, who published cell and mouse studies of it in 2018.
