What is PT-141 (Bremelanotide)?

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) 10mg is a synthetic research compound intended solely for in vitro laboratory experiments. PT-141, also known as Bremelanotide, is a heptamer composed of 7 amino acids. Acting as an agonist for melanocortin receptors, PT-141 triggers signaling pathways by mimicking alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Researchers are currently investigating the effects of PT-141 on various cell lines to understand its impact on cellular functions. Although the half-life of the peptide is brief, lasting only a few minutes, it has demonstrated effects on cells for up to 72 minutes once it engages with them.

In studies involving rats, subcutaneous or intracerebroventricular (ICV) administration of PT-141 selectively increased measures of solicitation without causing any changes in locomotion. This specificity indicates that the peptide acts as an agonist at melanocortin-1 and 4 receptors (MC1R and MC4R). MC4R has been associated with the modulation of sexual function. PT-141 has been evaluated for its stimulating effects on female sexual desire and male erectile dysfunction. Subcutaneous injection of PT-141 administered 45 minutes before sexual activity has been shown to improve sexual desire and reduce sexual stress. Co-administration of PT-141 with stimulants such as sildenafil or MCR agonists has also been found to enhance erectile response in men compared to control groups receiving vehicle or monotherapy. The mechanism underlying PT-141’s effect on erectile function involves the generation of nitric oxide.

Some studies have indicated that PT-141 may lead to liver toxicity, characterized by a notable increase in blood aminotransferase levels, a slight elevation in alkaline phosphatase, and mild jaundice. However, acute or chronic liver failures associated with PT-141 have not been reported thus far. PT-141 can be utilized for in vitro experiments due to its specific effects on melanocortin receptors.
